How to Download a Video from X (Formerly Twitter)
Published March 22, 2026
Twitter rebranded to X in 2023, but the website still works the same way — and downloading videos is still just as tricky. X.com doesn't have a built-in download button for videos. Here's how to save them anyway.
Quick Method: Online Downloader
Works on any device, takes 30 seconds:
- Open the post on X.com (or the X app). Tap the share icon → "Copy link."
- Go to getxtwittervideo.com in your browser.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- Choose your quality (HD or SD) and save the file.
Both x.com and twitter.com links work — the tool handles both domains automatically.
X.com vs. Twitter.com Links
After the rebrand, links come in two formats:
https://x.com/username/status/123456(new format)https://twitter.com/username/status/123456(old format, still works)
Both formats are identical — X redirects twitter.com links to x.com. Our downloader accepts either format, so don't worry about which one you have.
Downloading on iPhone
- In the X app, tap the share icon on the post → "Copy link."
- Open Safari and go to getxtwittervideo.com.
- Paste the link and tap Download.
- The video downloads to your Files app. To move it to your camera roll: open Files → Downloads → tap the video → share icon → "Save Video."
Downloading on Android
- In the X app, tap share → "Copy link."
- Open Chrome and go to getxtwittervideo.com.
- Paste and tap Download. The MP4 goes directly to your Gallery.
Downloading on Desktop
- On x.com, click the share icon under the post → "Copy link."
- Open getxtwittervideo.com in a new tab.
- Paste the link, click Download, and choose your quality.
What You Can Download from X
- Videos: Full MP4 in HD or SD quality. X video downloader.
- GIFs: Downloaded as MP4 (X stores GIFs as video). X GIF downloader.
- Images: Original resolution. X image downloader.
- Audio: Extract MP3 from any video post. X to MP3.
Does X Premium Change Anything?
X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) gives you higher upload quality and longer videos, but doesn't add a download button. The same third-party methods work regardless of whether the uploader has Premium.
One benefit: Premium users can upload up to 4K video, which means the HD download will be higher quality for those posts.
Troubleshooting
The link doesn't work
Make sure you copied the full post URL, not a search URL or profile URL. The link should contain /status/ followed by a number.
The post is from a private account
Third-party tools can only download from public accounts. If the account is private, you'll need to ask the poster to share the video directly.
I only see images, no video option
The post might contain only images. If there's a video, the tool will detect and provide MP4 download options automatically.
